In August of 2021, Discovering U launched the inaugural State of Education Parent Leadership & Advocacy Training Cohort.
We recruited 20 parents, caregivers, and community members to participate in a hybrid training program to build the knowledge, skills, and capacity to become educational leaders in their communities. Participants met weekly for eight weeks and actively engaged in workshops, role-playing scenarios, reflective activities, and strategy sessions that led to the development of our Pillars for Change.
Since completing the program, participants have used their newly developed skills to step into parent leadership roles at local schools and shared their ideas with district leaders at school board meetings and stakeholder events.
This pilot program was well received by all participants, as evidenced by overwhelmingly positive session evaluations and feedback.
STAY TUNE for our second cohort of parents and community leaders in the fall of 2022.
